I know some of you have seen in my videos that I always have a bottle of rose water near me, and I have been using rose water for a long time because the benefits of rose water are amazing.

But why roses are so good to the skin? Roses are believe to be antidepressants, antiseptics, they have some sedative properties, roses in some places are considered aphrodisiacs, you can use the water as a tonic, as an astringent and also as antispasmodic. But that is not all, the oil has been found effective in cases of depression, insomnia, impotence, skin care regimens, nervous tension, grief, sadness and low self esteem. Rose water helps to stimulate the nervous system.

Rose water is also a very useful toner that have anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties this is probably why Romans in the ancient days preferred to bathe and wash their hands in rose water. It is also known that the beautiful Cleopatra seduced Marc Anthony bathing in rose water.

Classically, rose water is made using damask roses, many-petaled and fragrant. These were first grown in Iran and Bulgaria, but are now frequently found in Spain, Italy, and France. However, the Middle Eastern countries remain some of the largest producers of rose water because of the availability of damasks. Rose water is made from distilled water of the roses. The process involves the use of steam distillation. You can make rose water at home but you need to make sure to have large quantity of roses available. Rose water made at home in its purest form proves to be more beneficial for the skin than chemical treated rose water.

Rose water is also use as an ingredient in different foods, In the Middle East and Asia, meat can be cooked and infused with it. There are recorded recipes dating back to the 8th century. Rose water also provides the primary flavor for many sweet treats, but also holds sacred importance in religious ceremonies of both the Muslim and Hindu religions. In certain Islamic rituals, it cleanses the body before prayer cleanses the spirit.

Homemade Rose Water:
To begin with, you will need to take a large pot. Place a clean rock or a brick in this pot. Fill this with rose petals; these need to be around the brick/rock. Fill this with water. Place a glass dish on top of the rock/brick. Place a stainless bowl on top of this pot. Fill the bowl with ice. Heat this and let it simmer for about 3 hours. This would also depend upon the number of petals that are placed inside. Replace the ice as required. Now, you would notice that the bowl, which contains the ice, would condense the steam. This will drip into the glass bowl. This water is the pure rose water. The layer of oil on top will be the essential oil. The rose essential oil is used in lotions and potpourris as well. Spray some rose water on your face at the end of a tiring day and feel all the tensions and troubles melt away!

I like to use rose water as a toner. After washing my face I like to apply the rose water all around my face and let it air dry, then you can continue with your beauty care routine.
Rose water will help you mantain your skin fresh, clean, invigorated, and it will give you a natural glow. Try it!!!
