The Galapagos experience - La experiencia de Galápagos

Hello friends,
Today I wanna show you some pictures about the trip I did with my husband to the Galápagos Islands. Every December 31st, my husband and I celebrate our anniversary, this past year we turned 11 years of marriage, so we wanted to celebrate and travel a little.
We decided to go to the Galápagos islands because we both are from Ecuador and we have never been there before, also the Galápagos are one of the most diverse and exotic places you can visit here in my country, and as you may already know, here in the Islands is that the famous naturalist Charles Darwin studied the flora and fauna, and his observations contributed to developed the theory of evolution by natural selection. (My science teacher would be proud of me now!)
Anyway, we flu in the morning of the 31st, and as soon as we arrived we started doing some tours into the different places in the island.
Let me share with you all of the beautiful things we encountered during our trip.

Hoy les voy a compartir algunas fotos del viaje que hice junto a mi esposo a las islas Galápagos.
Cada Diciembre 31, mi esposo y yo celebramos nuestro aniversario, este pasado 31, cumplimos 11 años de casados, así que decidimos celebrarlo y viajar un poco.
Decidimos visitar las islas Galápagos puesto que los dos somos Ecuatorianos y nunca habíamos estado ahí antes, además porque las Galápagos es uno de los lugares mas diversos en cuanto a flora y fauna, es uno de los lugares mas exóticos que se pueden visitar aquí en mi país, y como ustedes probablemente ya sepan, aquí en las islas Galápagos fue donde el famoso naturalista Charles Darwin estudió la flora y fauna y sus observaciones contribuyeron a desarrollar la teoría de la evolución de las especies por selección natural (mi maestra de ciencias estaría feliz y orgullosa de verme ahora jaja)
En fin, volamos la mañana del 31, y tan pronto como llegamos, empezamos a hacer tours en los diferentes lugares de la isla.
Déjenme que les comparta todas las hermosas cosas que encontramos en nuestro viaje.

I have to start the pictures with my dear Lana, she invaded our suitcase,
and she didn't want us to go. hehehe
Tengo que empezar con esta foto de mi pequeña Lana.
Invadió la maleta y no quería que empaquemos. jejeje
I started my trip arriving into the Island of Baltra, also know as South Seymour.
The main airport is situated in this island, and it surprised me how ecological the people on this island are. They use wind energy and they also have some energy generated through solar panels.
Very good for a small island.
Nuestra aventura empezó cuando aterrizamos en la isla de Baltra, que tambieén se la conoce como South Seymour.
El aeropuerto principal de las Galápagos esta situado en esta isla. A mi me sorprendió la manera tan ecológica de ser de la gente. Aquí se utiliza energía eólica, así como energía solar.
...muy bien!!, para ser tan solo una pequeña isla.
We started out tour visiting "Los gemelos" (the twins) this large structure is a big hole on the land that was created as a result of the collapse of the surface into underground chambers.
You can't really see it on this picture, but the hole is tremendously huge.
You can see different kinds of plants and birds on this location.
Comenzamos nuestro tour visitando "Los Gemelos" que son estructuras con un gran agujero en la tierra, que se crearon al colapsar la superficie formando cámaras subterráneas.
Realmente no se puede apreciar muy bien en la foto, pero el agujero es inmenso.
En esta locación se pueden observar diferentes tipo de vegetación y aves.
Next we went to the National Park to check out some turtles and visit the tunnels of lava, I was very excited about this. You have to imagine that at some point in the life of this amazing island (Santa Cruz) there were lava flowing freely into the rock creating this huge passageways into the earth.
I felt like Indiana Jones searching for a mysterious object walking into this tunnel.
Luego fuimos al Parque Nacional a visitar a las tortugas y los túneles de lava, Yo estaba muy emocionada por esto. Imaginen que en algún momento atrás en la historia de esta isla(Santa Cruz) hubo lava libre, fluctuando entre las rocas creando pasajes enormes dentro de la tierra.
Visitando los túneles de lava me sentí como Indiana Jones buscando algún objeto perdido.
This little guy right here is very young.
You may be wondering how is it that I know that, well, it is simple, the more pronounced the rings on the turtle shell, the younger it is. So this little fella is probably a teenager.
Este pequeño amiguito es muy joven.
Probablemente se estén preguntando cómo sé eso? bueno, es sencillo. Mientras mas pronunciados los anillos en el caparazón de las tortugas, indica que estas son jóvenes. Así que este amiguito probablemente sea adolescente aún.
Into the tunnels, you can feel the moisture inside and walking can be a little slippery, you have to be careful in there, nevertheless this is such an experience!!
Dentro de los túneles puedes sentir la humedad que existe y caminar algunas veces puede ser peligroso, tienes que tener mucho cuidado, a pesar de ello, es una experiencia increíble!!
When you finish you visit into the tunnels, you can enjoy a delicious cup of Galápagos coffee or organic lemongrass tea if you wish, and you can also see this turtle shells laying on the floor for you to take pictures.
My husband didn't hesitated and we took this pic together, since then, I like to call him my "little ninja turtle", Lol.
Cuando termina la visita de los túneles de lava, puedes ir a disfrutar de una deliciosa taza de cafe de Galápagos o un rico té de hierbas orgánico. Al mismo tiempo, puedes ver los caparazones de las torutguitas para tomarte fotos.
Mi esposo ni lo pensó dos veces, se metió dentro del caparazón para la foto. A raíz de eso, me gusta llamarlo "mi pequeña tortuguita ninja" jeje.
At night, we had dinner at this beautiful hotel called "Sol y Mar". Then we went for a walk into the pier and later we watched the fireworks with all the people in the downtown.
En la noche, cenamos en este hermoso hotel llamado "Sol y Mar". luego fuimos a caminar por el muelle y después observamos los juegos pirotécnicos junto a la gente en el centro de la isla.
The people is super friendly in here, you can see people from everywhere in the world tying to speak Spanish, so it's a good idea to learn some words to greet everyone.
You can say:
"Feliz año nuevo", that means Happy new year.
"Hola", that means Hello.
"Buenas noches", good night.
and the most important, "Gracias" that means thank you ;)
La gente es super amable aquí, lo mejor de todo, es que se puede ver gente de todas partes del mundo tratando de hablar español cosa que es lindísimo, escuchar tu idioma en los labios de otra gente con un acento diferente.
The next day was a tough one, we had to woke up pretty early to go to this beach called "Tortuga bay" You start the journey going from you hotel in a bus, or from the main water taxi dock into the start of the path.
To get into the beach you have to walk 1.55 miles, it's a 45 minutes walk with some small hills and down trails. It's a good idea to wear sport shoes and bring some snacks and water with you.
Tortuga bay is a preserved beach, you cannot swim in there, the beach is for the marine iguanas(Lucky them!!!), but if you walk 15 more minutes, you arrive at this separated tranquil beach in which you can swim with sharks, but don't worry this sharks are rarely aggressive toward humans, hehehe
El siguiente día fue un día duro, comenzamos levantándonos muy temprano para poder ir a una playa llamada "Tortuga Bay" Se comienza la travesía yendo en bus desde el hotel hasta la entrada de la playa, o tomando un taxi acuático.
Para llegar a la playa se deben caminar 1.6596 km, prácticamente es una caminata de 45 minutos, pasando por unas pequeñas colinitas y bajadas. Es buena idea llevar consigo zapatos deportivos que sean cómodos y algunos snacks y agua fresca.
Tortuga bay es una playa preservada, no se puede nadar ahí, la playa es para las iguanas marinas(que suertudas!!) pero si caminas 15 minutos mas, llegas una playa separada y tranquila en donde te puedes bañar e incluso nadar con tiburones, pero no te preocupes, estos tiburones son raramente agresivos hacia los humanos, jejeje
This beautiful specimen is a marine iguana, this iguanas are found only in the Galápagos islands and have adapted to swim in the ocean.
The marine iguanas are a little clumsy on land but they are graceful swimmers, like any reptile, they need the help of the sun so they can warm up and get some energy. This iguanas feed from algae that lives in the water.
Este hermoso espécimen es una iguana marina, este tipo de iguanas solo viven en las Galápagos y se han adaptado a nadar en el océano.
Las iguanas marinas son un poco torpes al caminar en la arena pero son nadadoras excepcionales, y como cualquier reptil, necesitan la ayuda del sol para calentarse y obtener energía.
Estas iguanas se alimentan de algas acuáticas.
We found this gorgeous blue-footed bobby fishing his lunch.
This seabirds are fearless from humans so you can easily see this birds walking by your side.
Encontramos a este simpático piquero de patas azules tratando de pescar su almuerzo.
Estas aves marinas no son nada temerosas ante los humanos, así que son muy fáciles de observar caminando a tu lado.
As you can see here, my new friends and I are ready to sun bath.
Did I mentioned that you are not supposed to touch the iguanas? actually you are not supposed to touch any animal from the Galápagos islands, but specially the iguanas because they don't have a very strong inmune system, so they are at a higher risks to catch infections from humans and get sick.
Marine iguanas sadly are currently labeled as vulnerable in the conservation status, and its population has been constantly decreasing throughout the years :(
Como pueden ver aquí, mis nuevas amigas y yo estamos listas para tomar un poco de sol.
Les mencioné que no se puede tocar a las iguanas? bueno, en realidad no se debería de tocar a ningún animal en las islas Galápagos, pero en especial a las iguanas, porque ellas no poseen un fuerte sistema inmunológico y siempre están en alto riesgo de enfermarse por los humanos.
Las iguanas marinas tristemente están etiquetadas como vulnerables en la escala de conservación de las especies, su población ha ido decreciendo constantemente durante los años :(

He wanted to say Hello to us, before fishing his lunch.
Este amiguito en rosa es un flamingo.
Quería saludarnos antes de pescar su almuerzo.
We ended the second day with a walk though the pier.
The next day we woke up early to visit a beach called "El garrapatero" You can do kayaking, snorkeling, camping, and do some cooking in there.
The sand in the beach is white and silky and you can share your day with flamingos, birds and sometimes marine iguanas.
Terminamos el segundo dia con una paseo en el muelle.
El siguiente día nos levantamos muy tempranito en la mañana para visitar una playa nueva llamada "El garrapatero" donde se puede hacer kayak, snorkeling, también se puede acampar y preparar un asado.
La arena en la playa es blanquita y sedosa. Ae puede pasar el día en esa playa junto con flamingos, aves y algunas veces iguanas marinas.
In the Galápagos islands you are going to find this amazing formations of lava rock in their beaches.
Walking is a little difficult and a little dangerous because the rocks are sharp but, overall is a beautiful and totally worth it experience.
En las islas Galápagos vas a encontrar estas hermosas formaciones rocosas hechas de lava en las playas. Caminar es algunas veces difícil y peligroso puesto que las rocas son uniformes y puntiagudas, pero a pesar de ello, es hermoso y vale la pena investigarlas y tocarlas.
After visiting the beach, we went to check out the Darwin research station.
We learned some things about the turtles, the land iguanas and the advances the people are doing to keep the species safe and healthy.
Después de visitar la playa, fuimos a conocer la estación científica Charles Darwin.
Aprendimos algunas cosas sobre las tortugas, las iguanas terrestres y los avances que los científicos están haciendo para mantener las especies a salvo y saludables.
This beautiful lizard is a land iguana.
This land iguanas have this beautiful reddish and yellowish tones that makes them different from the marine iguanas that are dark in coloration.
The land iguanas like to lie on lava rocks to absorb heat from the sun. They also the keep a reciprocal relationship with birds, since the birds remove parasites and ticks from them and get fed in return.
Esta hermosa lagartija es una iguana terrestre.
las iguanas de tierra tienen ese hermoso color amarillo rojizo que las diferencian completamente de sus "primas" las iguanas marinas, que a su vez son mas oscuras en su coloración.
Las iguanas terrestres descansan sobre las rocas volcánicas para absorber calor del sol.
Lo mas interesante es que tienen una relación simbiótica con los pajaritos, ya que estos remueven parásitos y pulguitas de su piel, las limpian, y a su vez los pájaros obtienen comidita.
Here is where "Lonesome George" died.
If you don't know who George was, let me tell you that he was a very special turtle, so special that he was the only one of his species in the world. People from the Darwin research center often tried to find a match for him without any luck.
Lonesome George was the rarest creature in the world, unfortunately he died from heart failure in 2012.
Aquí es donde murió el "Solitario George".
Si no conoces a George, déjame decirte que fue una tortuga muy especial, tanto, que fue el único de su especie en el mundo. Las personas de la estación científica Darwin, constantemente trataban de encontrarle una pareja al solitario George, lastimosamente sin suerte.
George o Jorge, como se lo denomina en el país, fue considerada la criatura mas rara del mundo, lastimosamente murió de un ataque al corazón en el 2012.
The last day we went aboard a boat to visit "Las grietas" and "la loberia" so we could swim in cool fresh ocean water and see some animals.
If you are not used to travel in a boat, I highly recommend you to take some pills for dizziness because the boat rocks a lot on the choppy waters of the ocean.
El último dia de nuestro viaje, subimos a bordo de un bote para visitar "Las grietas" y la "Lobería" que son lugares hermosos donde se puede nadar en agua oceánica y observar animales.
Si no estás acostumbrada a viajar en bote, te aconsejo tomar media hora antes del viaje unas pastillas para los mareos, porque el bote se mueve mucho en las aguas del mar y esto provoca malestares.
That late afternoon, we went to this beautiful place in which we could see all the island of Santa Cruz. The view was spectacular, a perfect place to enjoy with your special someone.
Esa tarde, fuimos a un hermoso mirador para observar la majestuosidad de toda la isla Santa Cruz.
La vista era espectacular, un lugar perfecto para compartirlo con esa persona especial en tu vida.
My hubby made a new friend the day before our departure.
We named this beautiful sea lion "Sleepy" because he was so lazy, he only wanted to sleep.
He is adorable!
Mi esposo hizo un nuevo amigo antes de regresar a la ciudad.
Decidimos bautizar a este hermoso león marino con el nombre de "Dormilón" porque solo quería dormir y no se quería levantar a jugar.
Es hermoso, no?
And that was our trip, we loved everything from the Galápagos island, the food, the friendly people, the diversity in animals, the plants, everything!!!!
If you ever have the opportunity to visit this amazing islands please do it. you are not going to regret it.
Being surrounded by the wonders of nature is simply magical.

Feliz Año, estás hermosa como siempre. Soy ecuatoriana también pero vivo en Estados Unidos ya 14 años. Te conozco desde el 2006 creo por tu canal de youtube. Extraño mucho tus videos, pero me encanta ver tus blogs y sobretodo verte tant feliz con tu esposo. Un abrazo gigante.
