Visiting Wat Phra Kaew

2:37:00 AM

Our last day in Bangkok is a day I am always going to remember, specially because we visited one of the most magnificent places in this city, I am talking about the "Grand palace"or Wat Phra Kaew.
This spectacular complex of buildings has been the official residence of the kings of Thailand since 1782(The current king and the queen don't live there anymore though). We wanted to see this place not only because this is one of the most visited places in Bangkok(that you should definitely visit if you have the opportunity) but also because we wanted to peek a glimpse at the marvelous statue of the "Emerald Buddha" that resides in there.

It is very difficult to give a proper explanation and description about this palace because of the amount of details and how eclectic and opulent it is, so describing it results futile for me, that is why I think that if you go to Bangkok the first place you should go to visit is the Grand palace and after that you can go to see the other temples around, the grand palace is totally worth it and is going to leave you speechless.

There is a very strict dress code being applied when you visit the Grand Palace because the temple of the Emerald Buddha is the most sacred site in Thailand. All visitors must be properly dressed before being allowed entry to the temple, that means long pants and shirts with sleeves for men, and equally modesty clothes for women, so ladies cover your knees and your shoulders and please don't wear any see through clothes. Also bare feet are not allowed so if you are wearing flip flops you must wear socks to cover your feet.
Now if they found you improperly dressed, don't worry, near the entrance there is a booth that provides clothes for you to cover up.
I know some of this rules can be a little annoying, specially because of the massive amount of people trying to get inside the temple and the harsh weather conditions but if you wear light cotton fabrics, if you take an umbrella or a hat to protect you from the sun and if you also take plenty of water, believe me you are going to feel much better and you are going to enjoy the visit.

Unfortunately we couldn't take pictures of the "Emerald Buddha" while visiting Wat Phra Kaew because pictures were strictly forbidden, but we took so many pictures of the different buildings and pagodas that exist in this complex.
Something that keeps impressing me all the time is the way Thai people have to embellish their buildings and structures. Everything that glittered in this complex was made out of 18 karat pure gold and semi precious stones. I have never seen so much gold together in my life, this is such a treat for the eyes.

I hope you enjoyed the photos. On the next post I will tell you everything about Phuket, that was another wonderful place we visited in Thailand, and after that I will tell you about some places in India that we are going to be visiting soon.
I love traveling and getting to know different places, I think the world is so beautiful and vast, to stay  just in one corner, don't you think?
